Cat. B1.3 Mechanical - Helicopter Turbine

The Mechanical B1.3 stream in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) focuses on the study and maintenance of turbine engines and helicopter (rotary-wing aircraft) structures. This specialized category, known as Cat. B1.3, equips students with the knowledge and skills required to ensure the airworthiness and safety of turbine-powered helicopters.

Graduates of this program are trained to handle complex mechanical systems, diagnose technical issues, and perform maintenance activities on turbine engines and rotary aircraft structures. Completing this stream and fulfilling the requirements will lead to obtaining an AME License in Category B1.3.

Pathway to Licensing

To achieve the AME License in Cat. B1.3, students must:

  • Successfully clear all Basic Knowledge Module Examinations conducted by the Chief Examination Office (CEO) under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India.
  • Gain the required maintenance experience as specified in DGCA Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR)-66.

Once these requirements are met, candidates are awarded the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License in Category B1.3, authorizing them to certify maintenance activities on turbine-powered helicopters.

Eligibility Criteria

To enroll in the AME B1.3 Mechanical stream, candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Completion of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized board or university.
  • A 3-year diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautics, or Electronics Engineering from a recognized institution.
